WHAT IS AMERICA 250?
America250 is the official national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence; it is a multi-year journey to reflect on our shared history, honor the diverse stories of all Americans, and renew our commitment to the ideals of liberty and equality.
For Patriots’ Path Council, this celebration holds a profound local significance. Our council serves the very landscapes where the “Path” to independence was forged—from the winter encampments at Morristown to the vital crossroads of the Revolution.

By participating in the 250 Hours for 250 Years challenge, our Scouts aren’t just reading about history; they are living out the Scouting values of citizenship and service in the same communities that helped birth a nation, ensuring that the next 250 years are built on a foundation of strong character and community impact
In celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary, every Scout unit in Patriots’ Path Council is encouraged to complete 250 hours of community service throughout 2026.

Every act of service makes a difference in the New Jersey communities we call home!

WHAT COUNTS AS SERVICE?
Service is at the heart of the Scout Oath and Law. In 2026, we want to capture the full breadth of the “Good Turn.” Service can include:
Council and District Activities: Unit, Council and District service projects.
Scouting for Food: Our annual effort to combat hunger in our local neighborhoods.
Rank Requirement Projects: Service hours completed for rank advancement or Eagle Scout service projects.
Individual or Family Service: Good turns performed at home or with family members.
Community Clean-ups: Beautifying our local parks, trails, and historic sites.
Environmental Efforts: Conservation projects that protect our local ecosystem.
Local Impact: Any project that benefits your specific house of worship, school, or community organization.
All Scout and adult volunteer hours count! Any service performed from January 2026 through December 2026 contributes to your unit’s 250-hour goal.

PLAN LOCAL!
We encourage our units to take ownership of this challenge. Create projects that work for your Scouts and your neighborhood: Choose your own schedule: Spread your hours across the year or tackle a major project in a single weekend. Focus on local needs: Reach out to your chartered organization or local town hall to see where help is needed most. Get creative: Make service fun and meaningful for Scouts of all ages.

MAKE IT VISIBLE!
Service is a powerful way to show our communities the value of Scouting. Invite Others: Encourage parents, alumni, and community members to join your service projects. Share the Story: Post photos of your unit in action on social media. Use council hashtags and tag Patriots’ Path Council. Celebrate Impact: Let your community know how many hours your Scouts have dedicated to making New Jersey a better place.

TRACK YOUR HOURS
Log service hours as you normally do in Scoutbook. Accurate tracking helps demonstrate the true impact of our collective service through Impact365.

CELEBRATE YOUR ACHIEVEMENT
Units that complete the 250-hour challenge are encouraged to: Recognition: Bring a copy of the tracking report and purchase recognition items at the Scout Store. Commemorate: Celebrate your unit’s accomplishment with your chartered organization. Inspire: Share your success with the community and local press.
